Recent Job: Home Safety Inspection Finds Electrical Issues at a Crows Nest Home

Service: Electrical Safety Audits

Location: Crows Nest, Lower North Shore

A repeat Captain Cook Electrical customer needed some electrical work completed around the garage roller door at this four-bedroom Crows Nest home.

While Blake was there, he also carried out Captain Cook Electrical’s complimentary Home Safety Inspection.

That check uncovered electrical safety items that were not part of the original job, including a missing earth stake and missing main switches.

Why Was Electrical Work Needed?

The original job involved the garage roller door.

The existing power lead was too short for the way the customer wanted to use it. The aim was to make the power connection more practical so the roller door could connect to an existing power point at ground level.

Blake completed the garage electrical work during the visit.

What Did Blake Find During the Home Safety Inspection?

As part of the visit, Blake worked through Captain Cook Electrical’s complimentary Home Safety Inspection.

The inspection found that the home was missing an earth stake and main switches. Switchboard items were also identified for attention.

These findings mattered because earthing and main isolation are important parts of a home’s electrical safety system.

What Does the Home Safety Inspection Check?

Captain Cook Electrical’s Home Safety Inspection looks at key parts of the electrical system around the home.

These checks can include the condition of the meter box, circuit breakers, safety switches, earthing, visible wiring, power points, lighting and smoke alarms.

For this Crows Nest home, the inspection brought the earthing and main-switch issues to the customer’s attention before they could remain hidden.

What Electrical Work Was Completed?

The garage electrical work was completed as part of the visit.

The job notes also record switchboard work being carried out after the inspection findings.

The missing earth stake required further work and was to be handled separately.

What Was the Result?

The original garage electrical work was completed, and the complimentary inspection gave the customer a clearer picture of the home’s electrical safety.

The missing earth stake and main-switch issues were identified, switchboard work was carried out, and the remaining earthing work could then be planned separately.

The value of the inspection was not simply finding a visible fault. It helped uncover electrical items the customer may not otherwise have known were there.

What Could Have Happened Without the Inspection?

Without the Home Safety Inspection, the missing earthing and main-switch issues could have remained unnoticed.

A missing earth stake can increase the risk of electric shock if an electrical fault occurs, while missing main switches can make safe isolation of the electrical installation more difficult.

Finding those issues gave the customer the opportunity to deal with them rather than leaving them hidden.

What Did the Customer Say?

The customer rated the service 10 out of 10 and said:

“Captain Cook Electrical, who have helped me several times, always go above and beyond. I love their can-do attitude, extensive product knowledge, and intelligent solutions to my power problems. A big bonus it that no mess is left behind! Would not use anyone else.”

The review fits this job particularly well. What began as a small garage electrical job also led to a wider safety check and the discovery of electrical work that needed attention.

Would Your Home Benefit From an Electrical Safety Check?

Electrical issues are not always obvious.

A Home Safety Inspection can help identify problems with earthing, switchboards, safety switches, power points, visible wiring and other parts of the electrical system before they are overlooked.
