Recent Job: Outdoor Lighting Upgraded at a Collaroy Plateau Home

Service: Lighting Solutions

Location: Collaroy Plateau, Northern Beaches

Eight outdoor light fittings needed replacing at this three-bedroom Collaroy Plateau home.

The electrical work also included replacing a double light switch and LED globes. While working through the property, our electrician found other areas of existing wiring that would need further attention.

One light fitting also needed an earth connection. New earth cable was installed before the completed work was tested and commissioned.

What Electrical Work Was Needed?

The main job was to replace eight existing outdoor lights with new fittings supplied by the owner.

The old fittings were removed and the cables were prepared before the replacement lights were installed.

A double light switch was also replaced and new LED globes were fitted.

One light fitting also needed an earth connection. New cable was run from the light into the roof space and connected to an existing earthed junction.

What Else Was Found?

While carrying out the lighting work, our electrician was able to see some of the existing wiring around the home.

Several junctions had been taped rather than fitted with connectors. Older black rubber wiring was also noted around the downstairs lighting.

The job notes also identified areas of cabling through the roof space that would need further attention.

These items were discussed with the owner so they can be considered as part of future electrical work.

How Was the Lighting Work Completed?

The existing outdoor light fittings were removed and the cables were re-stripped before the new customer-supplied lights were fitted.

The replacement lights were installed in different outdoor areas around the home, including fittings beneath the eaves and around the exterior walls.

The double light switch was replaced and reconnected. LED globes were also replaced.

For the light that needed an earth connection, new earth cable was run into the roof space and connected to an existing earthed junction.

The completed work was then tested and commissioned.

What Was the Result?

Eight replacement outdoor light fittings were installed around the home.

The double light switch and LED globes were also replaced, and the light fitting that needed an earth connection now had new earth cable installed.

The completed electrical work was tested and commissioned.

The different outdoor areas now have their replacement light fittings in place, while the visit also gave the owner a clearer picture of other existing wiring that can be addressed during future electrical work.

What Could Have Happened Without the Work?

The earth connection was an important part of this job.

Without it, a fault at that light fitting could have increased the risk of electric shock.

Leaving the other lighting work unchanged would also have meant the home continued with the existing fittings rather than the outdoor lighting upgrade the owner had planned.

The other wiring concerns found during the visit will still need to be considered separately, as they were not part of the completed repairs on this job.
